コトシロヌシは、日本国の土台を作った神様、大国主（オオクニヌシ）の息子でした。
アマテラスの一族が、オオクニヌシ一族から日本国を譲ってもらう時に、明け渡す決定をした神様です。
「天の逆手」という呪術をかけて日本国を明け渡したましたが、その「天の逆手」の意味は判っておりません。
