イワナガヒメは、「オオヤマズミ」の娘で、「コノハナサクヤヒメ」の姉になります。

大切な娘二人を一緒に嫁に出したのは、姉の「イワナガヒメ」が子を産めば風雪があっても大風が吹いても石のごとく、子孫の命は永久になり、また妹の「コノハナサクヤヒメ」が子を産めば、桜の木の花が咲き満ちるがごとく、栄える続けるであろうという運命を予見していたからからです。
しかし姉の「イワナガヒメ」が送り返されたことで、「オオヤマズミ」の予見は、叶わなくなりました。
