アメノトヨタラシカラヒメは、ヤツカミズオミツヌを連れて石見の国へ帰ります。
そして、ヤツカミズオミツヌはみごとに八色岩を真っ二つに切って退治しました。
その化け物の首は飛び去り、邑智郡（オチグン）の龍石となり、その尻尾は美濃郡（ミノグン）の角石（きれいな四角い石）となりました。
これで、石見の国には、災いがなくなったとアメノトヨタラシカラヒメは、大いに喜び、ヤツカミズオミツヌと共に村に凱旋し、飲めや歌えとヤツカミズオミツヌをもてなしました。
しかし、その夜にアメノトヨタラシカラヒメは亡くなってしまいました。
アメノトヨタラシカラヒメは自分の命と引き換えにヤツカミズオミツヌへ、絶大なパワーを授けたからです。
